Wireless Access Control

iCAM Wireless Access Control (WAC) is a Wi-Fi Hotspot solution that allows you to provide broadband wireless access for your members and guests. The solution can be easily deployed without the need for additional broadband connections or can be implemented completely independently of your existing network infrastructure. The software has been designed to allow Wi-Fi Internet access for a variety of user categories including known users (members) and guests, and includes the facility to provide and manage online registration. The systems will also integrate with existing library management systems and a variety of data sources for user validation, including proprietary databases and network accounts.

Hotspots for public and staff

Wi-Fi hotspots are not just available for your members, registered borrowers or customers to use – your own staff can use them too. Any visitor to your site can use their laptop to connect to the Internet, browse for information, collect and send email and access intranet services. So in addition to improving services for the public, reducing pressure on public access workstations and increasing visitors to your library or other site, your hotspot becomes a tool to facilitate remote working for all the staff in your organisation too.

Single site or Authority-wide

Wireless Access Control can be installed in just one site, or a number of individual sites where there is greater demand for the service, or it can be implemented across all your libraries, so your public know wherever there’s a library they can make the right connections and hop onto the Internet with their laptop.

Integrated with, or independent from, your network infrastructure – it’s your choice!

If you want to be up and running without installing any additional broadband connections or network infrastructure then you can use existing equipment and get started with minimum expense and hassle. On the other hand, if your IT department needs to be really sure about the security and integrity of the corporate network or the People’s Network, then Wireless Access Control can be set up using a completely separate network configuration.

Secure configuration and filtering options

To ensure that the connections made by your public are always the right ones, and that vulnerable customers such as children are fully protected, Your hotspot can be closely integrated with the borrower categories on your library management system or your member categories on any database application. This will restrict access to undesired facilities and filter access to inappropriate websites to ensure full protection for children and peace of mind for adults.

Authentication, including online registration

This integration also allows for registered borrowers or members to be offered better facilities than guests, by increasing the length of sessions allowed or expanding access to facilities. Guests can also see promotions aimed at increasing new registrations by offering a simple online registration form – everyone who tries this finds that it works wonders!

Mobile Libraries

Wireless Access Control can now be implemented using 3G or mobile satellite connections creating an uplink back to central servers to manage access, authentication and control in the same way as static libraries. This can prove useful for both providing internet access to communities without traditional broadband as well as providing a mobile internet vehicle for use in special events or emergencies. The system can be designed to provide coverage both inside and outside the vehicle with a range of over 100 meters.
